ABOUT SUSHIDEX

A visual guide for reading sushi menus

SushiDex is an independent visual catalogue built to make sushi menus easier to understand. It connects familiar names, Japanese terms, ingredients and images in one place.

The project is designed for recognition, not for replacing restaurant information or professional dietary advice.

What the catalogue covers

Each entry describes a dish as it commonly appears on menus: its format, usual ingredients, alternative names, texture, flavor intensity and whether the listed version normally includes raw fish.

Category and comparison guides connect those individual entries so visitors can move from a broad format, such as nigiri or uramaki, to specific examples.

How the information is prepared

SushiDex uses a curated catalogue rather than automatically publishing scraped restaurant menus. Descriptions are kept concise and tied to the attributes stored for each dish.

Western-style rolls do not have one universal recipe. Where a name or filling can vary by restaurant, the page says so and lists only the common ingredients represented in the catalogue.

How the menu scanner works

The scanner reads text from a menu image in the browser and compares the detected words with existing SushiDex entries. The selected image is processed locally and is not uploaded to SushiDex.

Recognition can be imperfect when a photo is blurred, a menu uses unusual names or a dish is not yet represented in the catalogue. The results are therefore a navigation aid, not a definitive identification.

Independence and corrections

SushiDex is a Lamarbis project and is not affiliated with the restaurants or delivery platforms whose terminology may resemble catalogue names.

If you spot an inaccurate description, an image mismatch or an accessibility issue, use the contact page to share the exact URL and the correction you suggest.
